National Endowment for the Arts awards over $110 million in grants to US organizations

The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) has announced the recipients of its second round of grants for fiscal year 2024, totaling over $110 million. The grants cover a wide range of artistic endeavors, including funding for museums, dance companies, theatres, literary organizations, arts festivals, opera companies, and music and art schools across the US.

Some of the notable projects funded by the NEA include a large-scale sculptural work by Agnes Denes at the Desert Biennial in Palm Springs, California, a new Duane Linklater commission at the Dia Art Foundation in New York, an exhibition of works by Anila Quayyum Agha at the Westmoreland Museum of American Art in Western Pennsylvania, a survey of works by Jackie Winsor at Laumeier Sculpture Park in St. Louis, and a solo show by photographer David Uzochukwu at the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art in Tennessee.

In addition to supporting individual artists and museums, the NEA is funding public-art projects such as a Living Streets Alliance program in Tucson, Arizona, a collaborative project in Alaska to help heal generational trauma in the Tlingit community, and an initiative in St. Paul, Minnesota to create traditional Mexican folk-art sculptures.

The NEA’s chair, Maria Rosario Jackson, emphasized the importance of investing in art and design to advance various aspects of communities. The grants awarded by the NEA demonstrate the organization’s commitment to ensuring that people across the country benefit from the arts.

In its first two rounds of funding for fiscal year 2024, the NEA has awarded a total of over $140 million in grants. The Arts and Cultural Production Satellite Account report also highlights the significant contribution of the arts and cultural industry to the US economy, generating a record $1.1 trillion in 2022 and providing jobs to 5.2 million people.
