18th-century Polish museum receives mysterious package containing long-lost historic tiles
The Royal Łazienki Museum in Warsaw has recently received a special package from Canada containing 12 late 17th-century Dutch tiles that were once part of the baths at the palace. These tiles were lost during the Second World War but have now been returned to the museum. The tiles are currently on display as part of a temporary exhibition about Stanisław Herakliusz Lubomirski, the founder of the estate where the palace is located. This unexpected return highlights the long journey that artwork stolen in wartime often takes to find its way back home. The museum has also received other items in recent years that were lost during the war, further enriching its collection.
