Russian Security Raid Moscow’s Garage Museum for Search Operations
The Garage Museum of Contemporary Art in Moscow, founded by Dasha Zhukova and Roman Abramovich, was searched by law enforcement agents, reportedly the Federal Security Service (FSB), on Friday. The search was related to the case of Pyotr Verzilov, an artist and activist accused of state treason. The museum continues to operate as usual despite the search. Concerns have been raised about the potential threat to the Garage archive, which houses materials donated by Russian contemporary art figures. Members of the art community are monitoring the situation closely. The museum’s main building, designed by architect Rem Koolhas, opened in 2015 and has since become a prominent cultural institution in Moscow.
