Exploring the Benin Kingdom’s Plight: Nigerian Pavilion at Venice Biennale 2024



The Nigerian Pavilion at this year’s Venice Biennale has announced its lineup for the exhibition. The pavilion will showcase a sound installation by artist Precious Okoyomon, a two-part work by Ndidi Dike inspired by the End Sars uprising, and pieces by Yinka Shonibare, Fatimah Tuggar, Onyeka Igwe, Abraham Onoriode Oghobase, and Toyin Ojih Odutola. Visitors can also explore “The Nigeria Imaginary Colloquium” and “The Nigeria Imaginary Incubator Project” at the pavilion. The exhibition is funded by Qatar Museums and private individuals, including Gbenga Oyebode and Tope Lawani, with support from various companies in the art industry. The pavilion is commissioned by Godwin Obaseki, governor of Nigeria’s Edo State, on behalf of Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Art, Culture and the Creative Economy, with MOWAA as its official organiser.
