Frieze Revolutionizes The Armory Show’s Debut Edition



The Armory Show returns to the Javits Center this month from 6-8 September, marking its first outing under the Frieze brand. This year, the fair celebrates its 30th anniversary with new director Kyla McMillan at the helm. The event kicks off New York City’s autumn art season, showcasing a diverse range of galleries from around the world.

With 240 participating galleries, including both new and returning faces, the fair promises a fresh and international lineup. The Focus section curated by Robyn Farrell features one- and two-artist stands, harkening back to the fair’s roots. The floorplan at the Javits Center has been revamped for a cleaner presentation of artwork, with a focus on large-scale works in the Platform section organized by Eugenie Tsai.

Key highlights include Hannah Traore Gallery’s solo stand featuring the work of Camila Falquez, and the Montreal-based Bradley Ertaskiran Gallery’s move to the main section. The event serves as an entry point for galleries looking to connect with collectors and institutions in New York. Despite the challenges faced by the art market this year, The Armory Show remains a vital platform for cultivating relationships and showcasing art to a global audience.
