Workers at Storm King sculpture park in New York ratify their first contracts with union representation
Workers at the Storm King Art Center recently ratified their first contracts after nearly eight months of negotiations. The new contracts include a more than 9% increase in the average hourly wage, contributions to workers’ 403(b) retirement accounts, minimum call-in pay, cancellation pay, pay for out-of-title work, and two days of paid time off, among other benefits.
The union, formed in June 2023, is part of the Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA) Local 1000 and represents 75 employees across various departments. The union consists of two bargaining units, with contracts valid through 2027 and 2028. Workers at Storm King began organizing after a $45 million campus revamp was announced, mobilizing to demand fair treatment.
Storm King Art Center is pleased with the agreements, highlighting immediate wage increases and policies to create an equitable workplace. The center, located in the Hudson River Valley, features outdoor works by renowned artists and a vibrant exhibition program, attracting art enthusiasts from the New York area and beyond.
