Butter Art Fair Showcasing Black Artists Returns to Indianapolis

The Butter Fine Art Fair is back for its fourth year, showcasing the work of Black artists from across the country. This unique art fair stands out with its unconventional economic approach, as 100% of art sales proceeds go directly to the artists. With over 60 exhibitors participating, the event promises a vibrant atmosphere filled with talks, showcases, music, and more at the Stutz in downtown Indianapolis.

Featuring artists like Cornelius Tulloch, April Bey, and D. Del Reverda Jennings, Butter aims to uplift historically marginalized voices. Founded in 2020 in response to the Black Lives Matter protests, the fair has quickly gained momentum, projecting $1 million in sales for this year’s event.

Despite Indianapolis not being traditionally recognized as an art hub, Butter has become a beacon for supporting emerging artists and engaging new collectors. The fair’s inclusive approach and commitment to equity have garnered attention and support from various institutions in the city.

With a diverse lineup of activities, including music performances, artist talks, and a kids’ area, Butter offers a unique and engaging art experience for all attendees. The fair’s emphasis on building connections between artists and collectors has led to significant sales and a growing appreciation for Black artistry.

For those interested in attending, the Butter Fine Art Fair will take place from August 29 to September 1 at The Stutz in Indianapolis.
