St Louis Gallery Removes Pro-Palestine Exhibition for Being Deemed Anti-Semitic

A St Louis art centre recently sparked controversy by removing the exhibition “Planting Seeds, Sprouting Hope” by artists Dani Collette and Allora McCullough due to allegations of antisemitism. The artists, who were part of a residency program at the Craft Alliance, had structured their exhibition around anti-genocide and pro-Palestine themes. The removal of certain pieces from the show, including a glass bowl and watermelon-shaped pieces with political references, led to accusations of antisemitism. The artists and the alliance have differing accounts regarding the communication of the exhibition’s themes, leading to a public dispute and the termination of the artists’ positions. While the exhibition at Craft Alliance was canceled, Fifteen Windows Gallery has offered to host the show, allowing for continued dialogue and engagement with the community. Instances of censorship related to the Israel-Palestine conflict have been on the rise, reflecting a broader trend of political censorship in the arts.
