National Trust Sites Under Siege: Climate Campaigners Kick Off Week of Protests

As school summer holidays begin in the UK, visitors to National Trust sites may encounter protesters calling for the charity to end its partnership with Barclays over its connections to the fossil fuel industry. Led by National Trust staff, volunteers, and members, a week of demonstrations is set to take place at 40 locations across the country. These protests aim to raise awareness of Barclays’ significant funding of fossil fuels, which has prompted other organizations to sever ties with the bank. The events will feature various activities, such as parades, punting protests, music performances, and protest picnics. While the National Trust has faced criticism in the past for its banking choices, a spokesperson for the charity has expressed a commitment to addressing the climate crisis and advocating for greater action from the banking sector to reduce emissions.
