Exiled Russian Artist Examines War’s Impact on Hometown in Peckham Exhibition

Russian artist Pavel Otdelnov has unveiled his latest exhibition, “Hometown,” at the Old Waiting Room in London’s Peckham Rye Station. The exhibition focuses on his hometown of Dzerzhinsk, a military-industrial center, and explores themes of environmental catastrophe, gangs, weapons production, and family history. Otdelnov’s acrylic on canvas works depict ghostly images that reflect on the city’s past and present. The artist aims to shed light on the history of Dzerzhinsk and its connections to the current socio-political climate. The exhibition has attracted both Russian and Ukrainian visitors, sparking conversations and reflections on love for one’s homeland despite facing difficult circumstances.
