Controversy Surrounding Portrait of Australia’s Richest Woman Gina Rinehart

Mining billionaire Gina Rinehart requested the removal of a portrait of her by Aboriginal artist Vincent Namatjira from the National Gallery of Australia (NGA) in Canberra. The portrait is part of a series displayed in the exhibition “Vincent Namatjira: Australia in colour” until 21 July. Despite the demands, the gallery declined to take down the artwork. The controversy has sparked discussions about artistic freedom and public dialogue in Australia’s art scene.
