Ace Gallery Founder Douglas Chrismas Found Guilty of Embezzlement
Los Angeles-based art dealer Douglas Chrismas was convicted last Friday of embezzling over $260,000 from his gallery’s bankruptcy estate in 2016. Founder of Ace Gallery, Chrismas has had a controversial career, facing lawsuits and bankruptcy filings. The road to his embezzlement charges began in 2013 when Ace Gallery filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The trustee overseeing the case discovered millions of dollars diverted from the gallery and moved artworks to private storage. The FBI arrested Chrismas in 2021 on separate criminal charges related to embezzling funds. He was found guilty on three counts of embezzlement after a short trial, with sentencing set for September 9th.
