Anish Kapoor condemns Venice Biennale title for promoting neo-fascism

The UK artist Anish Kapoor has criticized the title and theme of the 60th Venice Biennale, titled “Foreigners Everywhere”, overseen by Brazilian curator Adriano Pedrosa, stating that it plays into the hands of Italy’s right-wing government. Kapoor expressed concerns about the choice of title, mentioning the rise of nationalist neo-fascism in Italy and the government’s anti-migrant and anti-foreigner stance. Pedrosa defended the theme, explaining that it reflects the city of Venice, which has a large population of foreigners and has always welcomed international artists. The exhibition, opening on April 20, will feature many artists from the Global South and aims to celebrate diversity and inclusivity.
