The Metropolitan Museum of Art has announced the celebrity co-chairs for its annual fundraising event, the Met Gala, scheduled for May 6th. This year’s co-chairs include latin trap artist Bad Bunny, multi-talented performer Jennifer Lopez, and actors Chris Hemsworth and Zendaya, along with perennial chair Anna Wintour. The event is sponsored by TikTok, with platform CEO Shou Chew as the honorary chair alongside Loewe’s creative director Jonathan Anderson.
The theme for this year’s gala is “The Garden of Time”, inspired by the upcoming Costume Institute exhibition, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion”, curated by Andrew Bolton. The exhibition will feature 250 pieces, including delicate 17th century garments and an 1889 black evening coat by Charles Frederick Worth, using technology to create a multi-sensory experience for viewers.
The gala’s theme is based on a J.G. Ballard short story, promising a display of emotional fashion poetics that will inspire attendees to embrace floral fantasies. Co-chair Bad Bunny made waves last year with his extravagant outfit, while Zendaya has been a standout in previous galas. With a star-studded lineup and a captivating theme, this year’s Met Gala promises to be a memorable event for fashion enthusiasts.
