Frankenthaler Foundation Provides $3.3m in Climate Grants to 69 Art Organizations

The Helen Frankenthaler Foundation is providing $3.3 million in grants to 69 visual arts organizations in the US to support energy-efficient upgrades. These upgrades include adding solar panels, changing lighting systems, conducting energy audits, and creating plans for achieving carbon neutrality. This initiative, known as the Frankenthaler Climate Initiative (FCI), is now in its fourth year and includes a new Catalyst Grant for organizations at earlier stages of their climate-action journey.

Recipients of this year’s grants range from large institutions like the New Museum and MoMA PS1 to smaller organizations like The Kitchen and The Chinati Foundation. The funds will support projects such as renovating studio spaces, rehabilitating buildings, and transitioning to all-electric systems. The goal is to inspire visual art organizations to lead the way in creating a more sustainable world.

Since its launch in 2021, the FCI program has funded over $14 million in environmental improvement projects at more than 200 institutions across the US. The Foundation’s commitment to supporting clean energy and energy efficiency in the visual arts sector continues to make a positive impact on the industry’s environmental footprint.
