Investigation underway for suspected arson in fire at Israel Museum
A forest fire in the Valley of the Cross in western Jerusalem caused damage to part of the Israel Museum’s roof, leading to a full evacuation of the institution. Authorities suspect arson, with at least three potential starting points identified. The fire, exacerbated by high temperatures and strong winds, was contained and extinguished with no injuries or artwork damage reported. The museum, known for its extensive art and archaeological collections, including the Dead Sea Scrolls, reopened the following day. The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing. The Shrine of the Book, a highlight of the museum’s campus, remains a symbol of architectural innovation.
