Miniature Sculptures by Henry Moore to Debut in Bath Exhibition
Henry Moore’s reputation in the UK’s public imagination is easily described as monumental. This applies to his work as much as his name, with the British sculptor known globally for large-scale public works. However, a new exhibition at the Holburne Museum in Bath is set to showcase another side of Moore’s artistry. Titled “Henry Moore in Miniature,” the exhibition brings together small-scale works from across the artist’s career, highlighting an intimacy and creative imagination that is often overlooked. The show features sculptures no larger than 30cm, showcasing Moore’s skill and versatility in working on a smaller scale. From early works made from found materials like wood and stone to later pieces cast in lead and bronze, the exhibition reveals a lesser-known aspect of Moore’s artistic practice. The show also emphasizes the symbiotic relationship between Moore’s miniatures and his larger works, showcasing how ideas and motifs from small sculptures translated into grander pieces. “Henry Moore in Miniature” offers a unique opportunity to explore the inventive and imaginative side of the artist, capturing the essence of his creative process in a more intimate setting. The exhibition runs from 3 May to 8 September at The Holburne Museum in Bath.
