New UK Digital Art School Offers Workshops and Supplies for NHS Mental Health Units
Hospital Rooms, a UK charity, has launched the Digital Art School project to provide free art materials and workshops to service users at mental health units in England. Participating artists include Abbas Zahedi, Dolly Sen, Giles Deacon, José Parlá, Ken Nwadiogbu, Michaela Yearwood-Dan, Sarah Dwyer, and Sutapa Biswas. The initiative aims to reach 180,000 inpatients diagnosed with severe mental illness, with all 58 NHS mental health trusts in England participating. Hospital Rooms was founded to improve the environment in mental health facilities, and the Digital Art School project is supported by various sponsors including Arts Council England and Hauser & Wirth gallery. Art-led campaigns focusing on the global mental health crisis have gained traction in recent years, including initiatives like Mindscapes and scientific research projects led by organizations like the World Health Organisation.
