New York Exhibition Showcasing Unseen Works by Sonia Delaunay

Sonia Delaunay (1885-1979) was an avant-garde artist who broke boundaries between fine art and decorative art. Despite her origins in Ukraine and Russia, she believed that art transcends borders. Delaunay’s art education and career flourished in Western Europe, particularly in Paris, where she was associated with the School of Paris artists and co-founded the Orphism movement with her husband Robert Delaunay. Her innovative designs and bold colors are considered a significant part of the Modern canon.

The exhibition “Sonia Delaunay: Living Art” at the Bard Graduate Center in New York showcases nearly 200 objects spanning Delaunay’s career, including paintings, fashion, furniture, and more. With loans from prestigious institutions such as the Centre Pompidou and Musée de la Mode de la Ville de Paris, the show demonstrates Delaunay’s revolutionary approach to art. Rarely seen objects, like her 1967 personal journal, provide insight into her artistic processes. The exhibition offers a unique opportunity to explore Delaunay’s influential work and legacy.

For more information, visit the Bard Graduate Center in New York from 23 February to 7 July for the “Delaunay: Living Art” exhibition.
