Prospect New Orleans 6: 49 Artists Showcase Citywide
Prospect.6, one of the most highly anticipated exhibitions in the Americas, has announced the lineup of 49 artists for its upcoming edition titled “the future is present, the harbinger is home.” Co-curated by Miranda Lash and Ebony G. Patterson, the exhibition features a diverse group of artists with ties to Louisiana, the Caribbean, and Southeast Asia. Notable artists participating include Joan Jonas, Raúl de Nieves, Meleko Mokgosi, Tuan Andrew Nguyen, Brian Jungen, Didier William, Brendan Fernandes, and Mel Chin.
Local New Orleans artists will also be prominently featured in Prospect.6, showcasing the city’s rich artistic talent. The exhibition will take place at around 20 sites throughout New Orleans, spanning traditional art spaces, public areas, and unconventional venues. The theme of “the future is present, the harbinger is home” challenges perceptions of home and aims to transcend North American narratives, grounding the city in a global context.
Prospect.6 seeks to explore the concept of home in the face of challenges, reflecting on how communities like New Orleans have been viewed as sites of extraction while also highlighting the profound connections to culture and history. The exhibition will run from November 2, 2024, to February 2, 2025, showcasing existing works and new commissions that engage with the theme of home and belonging in a rapidly changing world.
