Rare German Medieval Altarpiece Wings to be Auctioned at Sotheby’s after 500 Years in Family Ownership

A pair of large medieval German panels painted by Bartholomäus Zeitblom are set to be auctioned at Sotheby’s Old Master & 19th Century Paintings evening sale in London on 3 July. The panels, which have been in the same family for over 500 years, are expected to fetch between £400,000 and £600,000. The artwork features a donor couple, Wilhelm von Schwendi and Barbara Krafft von Dellmensingen, and was originally part of an altarpiece for the St. Anna Chapel in Schwendi. The panels were removed from the altarpiece in 1758 and have remained in the family ever since. The artwork is in excellent condition and is considered one of the best-preserved donor panels by the Ulm master. Don’t miss the opportunity to own a piece of history at the upcoming auction.
