Sotheby’s opens versatile space in Hong Kong business district
Sotheby’s Asia has unveiled its highly anticipated Maison space in Hong Kong, showcasing two non-selling exhibitions. The 24,000 sq. ft space in the Landmark Chater building features a street-facing ground floor with 6m-high ceilings, offering visitors a state-of-the-art experience.
Designed by Rotterdam-based architecture studio MVRDV, the space is hosting exhibitions like “Bodhi: Masterpieces of Monumental Buddhist Art” and “Ice: Two Masterworks on Loan from the Long Museum”. The Maison will focus on direct sales and auctions, with a dedicated space for exhibitions, retail, and programming.
Sotheby’s Salons on the first floor is a concept store that provides a curated retail experience with diverse offerings across various genres. The new space is strategically located near cultural institutions and luxury brands, showcasing a long-term commitment to the Asian market.
Despite economic challenges, Sotheby’s remains optimistic about its prospects in Asia, with a growing client base of millennials and young generations. The new Maison space marks an exciting chapter for Sotheby’s and demonstrates their confidence in the Asian art market.
