Basquiat Stretcher-Bar Painting Expected to Fetch $30 Million in New York Spring Auctions



Jean-Michel Basquiat’s iconic painting from 1982 featuring his signature symbols and text is set to go up for auction at Christie’s in New York with an estimated value of around $30m. The painting, titled “The Italian Version of Popeye has no Pork in his Diet,” will be part of an evening auction of 21st-century art on May 14th. Additionally, other big works by Basquiat will be available for purchase at upcoming spring sales in New York, including pieces at Phillips and Sotheby’s. Basquiat’s influence and presence in the art world remains strong, with ongoing exhibitions and documentaries further showcasing his impact.
