Equine Art Exhibition Gallops into Château de Versailles this Summer
The Palace of Versailles will be hosting the equestrian events of the 2024 Summer Olympics, bringing horses back to its elegant park. Alongside this, an exhibition titled “Horse in Majesty: At the Heart of a Civilisation” will showcase the role of horses in Western art history, featuring loans from prestigious museums worldwide. The exhibition will include works such as a rare drawing by Andrea del Verrocchio and equestrian portraits by artists like Rubens and Géricault. The exhibition curators have focused on European art from the Renaissance to the First World War, marking the decline of cavalry. Visitors can expect to see masterpieces depicting horses in various forms, including armour and equestrian portraits. The exhibition will be held at the Palace of Versailles from 2nd July to 3rd November 2024.
