Exploring the Art of Cedric Morris and Arthur Lett-Haines: A Focus on Their Works
Cedric Morris (1889-1982) and Arthur Lett-Haines (1894-1978), renowned figures in British painting between the World Wars, are the subject of a new exhibition at Gainsborough’s House. Titled “Revealing Nature: The Art of Cedric Morris and Lett-Haines,” the showcase delves into their artistic partnership and individual styles. Morris, known for his eclectic works spanning portraits, landscapes, and still lifes, straddled a fine line between St Ives formalism and a romantic conservatism. On the other hand, Lett-Haines, who took a hiatus from art before resurging in his 60s, is revered for his imaginative and sometimes menacing creations inspired by organic forms. The exhibition aims to shine a light on their artistry, allowing Morris and Lett-Haines to speak for themselves. Visit Gainsborough’s House in Sudbury from 6 July to 3 November to experience this unique display of their work.
