Former Marlborough Gallery President Max Levai presents Frank Auerbach exhibition in Venice.
US dealer Max Levai is set to showcase a collection of 12 paintings by German-British painter Frank Auerbach in Venice this month. Auerbach, known for his Golden Lion win in 1986, will have his first exhibition outside the US presented by Levai. The show, titled “Frank Auerbach: Starting Again,” will feature works from 1969 to 2016 at the 15th-century Palazzo da Mosto. The exhibition aims to highlight Auerbach’s evolution as an artist and his distinct style, with many of his notable sitters and scenes from London included. Although details on the works’ availability for sale remain undisclosed, the showcase is expected to draw an international audience, especially with the coinciding Art Basel event. Levai also emphasizes Auerbach’s late career paintings as some of his best, challenging traditional market preferences for early works.
