Former Mormon Artist Withdraws Exhibition from Arizona Museum Due to Simultaneous Mormon Art Show
The Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum in Arizona has made changes to its exhibition program following the cancellation of a show by artist Angela Ellsworth. Ellsworth, a former Mormon, withdrew her exhibition due to a lack of communication with the museum. The museum is currently hosting a survey of artists affiliated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) titled “Materializing Mormonism: Trajectories in Contemporary Latter-day Saint Art”. The exhibition, organized by the Center for Latter-day Saint Arts, features over 30 international artists and aims to showcase the diversity and breadth of artists addressing Mormonism in their work. The museum is now searching for its next chief curator.
