Mitchell-Innes & Nash to Close Chelsea Gallery and Change Business Model

Mitchell-Innes & Nash, a prominent art gallery in New York, is undergoing a transition from a traditional gallery space on West 26th Street in Chelsea to a new project-based advisory space. The gallery will focus on supporting primary market artists and estates while offering works on the primary and secondary markets, as well as providing advisory services. The co-founders, Lucy Mitchell-Innes and David Nash, expressed their gratitude to the artists they have worked with over the years and look forward to supporting artists in new ways in the future. The gallery originally launched on the Upper East Side in 1996 before moving to Chelsea in 2005, where they have presented over 200 exhibitions. The gallery represents artists such as Jacolby Satterwhite, Sarah Braman, Martha Rosler, and others, including the estates of Pope.L, Anthony Caro, and General Idea. This transition is part of a larger trend in the art market, with neighboring galleries like Cheim & Read and Marlborough Gallery also undergoing changes in their operations.
