New Director of Art Basel Aims for ‘Generational Transformation’ with Fresh Vision

Art Basel, the world’s premier art fair, welcomes its new leader, Maike Cruse, for the upcoming 2024 edition. With her background as the director of Gallery Weekend Berlin, she brings fresh perspectives to elevate the renowned Swiss fair. The event aims to appeal to new faces while maintaining its status as the most important fair globally.

One key initiative is the introduction of new venues and activities, such as the Merian riverside hotel site for performances and talks. The fair’s efforts to enhance conviviality alongside collecting are evident in these developments. Additionally, the Parcours section, curated by Stefanie Hessler, will showcase outdoor and site-specific artworks clustered along Clarastrasse, fostering dialogue with the city and its people.

As Art Basel continues to evolve, Cruse’s experience and vision will bring new galleries and artists, including those from East Asia and Berlin. The fair’s commitment to rejuvenation and diversity is reflected in the Statements section for solo presentations by emerging artists. Through strategic planning and embracing the unique characteristics of each location, Art Basel remains at the forefront of the art world.

Don’t miss the opportunity to experience Art Basel from June 13-16 at Messeplatz, Basel, Switzerland.
