New London Exhibition Showcasing Palestinian Art Opens Soon

A new iteration of an exhibition previously showcased by the Palestinian Museum US at the 2022 Venice Biennale is set to open at London’s P21 Gallery on 1 February. Titled “From Palestine with Art,” the exhibition features a diverse group of artists working across various mediums such as painting, sculpture, photography, textile art, and installation. The show includes works by artists like Mohammed Alhaj, Nameer Qasim, Samia Halaby, and others.

The exhibition also highlights a 25-minute documentary by the late Gazan journalist Roshdi Sarraj, focusing on the May 2021 IDF attack on Gaza. The film, titled “A Bank of Targets,” will be the centerpiece of the exhibition.

Complications with Italy’s fine arts export bureaucracy delayed the arrival of artworks to London, with some pieces arriving just in time. New additions to the exhibition include works by artists such as Janan Abdu, Sobhiya Hasan Qais, Samira Badran, Nabil Anani, and Ibrahim Alazza.

The exhibition comes after the Palestinian Museum US faced rejections for the 2023 Venice Architectural Biennale and the 2024 art biennale, which curator Faisal Saleh believes were politically motivated. Despite these challenges, Saleh emphasizes the importance of showcasing Palestinian artists’ voices and perseverance against adversity.

Overall, the exhibition aims to introduce Palestinian art to a wider audience while honoring the talent and resilience of Palestinian artists.
