Allegations of Redundancies at London’s ICA Linked to Palestine Solidarity Actions

Former employees of the London Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) are alleging that their dismissals are related to their support for Palestine. According to a statement posted by Cultural Workers Against Genocide (CWAG), 14 staff members were informed of their redundancy, including those who had previously advocated for the ICA to boycott Israel. The layoffs were attributed to financial cuts by ICA management, but former employees dispute this claim. The ICA has been a vocal supporter of Palestine, hosting events and exhibitions, but has not officially endorsed the boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) movement. Funding to the ICA was reportedly rescinded by a private donor due to issues related to the Israel-Hamas war, leading to financial challenges for the institution. The ICA’s deficit for the current fiscal year is projected to be around £800,000.
