Artists and curators call for reinstatement of cancelled Palestinian event at Manchester venue

Over 300 artists, curators, and cultural workers have signed an open letter urging Home, an arts venue in Manchester, UK, to reinstate an event celebrating Gazan literature that was cancelled. The event, “Voices of Resilience: A Celebration of Gazan Writing,” was originally scheduled for 22 April but was called off due to safety concerns. The open letter condemns the cancellation as discriminatory and calls on Home to reaffirm its commitment to anti-racism. The event’s organizer, Comma Press, refuted allegations of antisemitism against a participating writer and is considering legal action. The Jewish Representative Council of Greater Manchester raised objections to the event, leading to its cancellation. In response to backlash, around 100 artists have removed their work from Home in protest. However, Home has now announced that the “Voices of Resilience” event will go ahead as planned, emphasizing its commitment to equality and diversity.
