Dangerous incident at Tate Modern closes surrounding street

The street behind Tate Modern in London has been closed after glass window panels fell from a residential high-rise building. The incident occurred at the Neo Bankside development in Holland Street, with shattered glass visible on the ground. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the accidents.

Visitors to Tate Modern were redirected towards the main Turbine Hall entrance as a precaution. All entrances are now fully operational. The Neo Bankside development was designed by British firm Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, known for the Centre Pompidou. Residents of the building were in a dispute with Tate over a viewing gallery, which has now restricted access.

In a separate incident in 2018, a tragic accident occurred when a man was killed by a falling window from a residential building along the River Thames.
