Discover Eduardo Chillida’s Hidden Gems: A Summer-Inspired Exhibition in Menorca
Eduardo Chillida (1924-2002) would have turned 100 this year. Celebrating his Basque heritage, Chillida rose to fame as Spain’s most acclaimed sculptor despite the challenges posed by Franco’s regime. To honor his centenary, Hauser & Wirth Menorca is hosting a comprehensive exhibition showcasing Chillida’s monumental public works and his intimate connection to nature. Featuring sculptures, drawings, collages, and prints, the display highlights Chillida’s humanistic and apolitical outlook.
Immersing himself in Menorca’s serene landscape during the summers, Chillida’s work took on a lighter quality inspired by the island’s unique light and landscapes. The exhibition, curated by architect Luis Laplace, aims to redefine Chillida’s legacy as a sensitive observer of the natural world. Drawing parallels between his art and his early football career, Chillida’s grandson describes how both pursuits allowed him to engage with the world in a profound way.
