Getty Museum Acquires Bartolomeo Manfredi Genre Painting Attributed to Caravaggio
The J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles has acquired “A Drinking and Musical Party” by Bartolomeo Manfredi, a prominent Caravaggisti painter. The painting is now on display at the Getty Center’s East Pavilion. Manfredi’s realistic depiction of a tavern scene has been attributed to Caravaggio in the past due to its striking resemblance to the master’s style. The painting features elegantly dressed young men enjoying food, drink, and music, with intricate details adding to the richness of the composition. The Getty’s acquisition of this masterpiece adds to its collection of Caravaggisti paintings, showcasing the museum’s commitment to preserving and showcasing important works of art.
