Lacma Acquires Works by Tavares Strachan, Judith Baca, Suzanne Jackson, and More with Nearly $3 Million Fundraising Success
The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (Lacma) recently hosted its annual Collectors Committee Weekend, raising nearly $3m and adding ten new acquisitions to its permanent collection. These acquisitions include a 16th-century devotional object from Mexico, a Parisian street scene painting by Jean Béraud, and preparatory drawings for a mural by Judith Baca. Lacma’s collectors committee also commissioned a new work from artist Todd Gray. The museum’s director, Michael Govan, expressed excitement about how these new acquisitions will strengthen the museum’s collection, with many slated to be featured in the upcoming David Geffen Galleries. Lacma’s ongoing expansion includes a new building designed by architect Peter Zumthor, set to be completed by the end of 2024. Notable additions to Lacma’s collection from the weekend include works by artists such as Manjunath Kamath, Suzanne Jackson, and Tavares Strachan, showcasing a diverse range of styles and influences.
