New Opportunity: Social Media Position Available in the Art World

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York is currently seeking a senior social media manager to develop and oversee the museum’s global social media strategy. The role involves publishing and moderating content on all official social media channels, leading innovation, and adopting best practices. The position offers a salary range of $110,000-$120,000.

The current senior social media manager, Claire Lanier, who took up the role in 2019, saw significant growth in the museum’s social media following during her tenure. Under her management, the Met gained over 200,000 social media followers in just two months, with a 95% increase in engagement on Instagram in the first two weeks of lockdown.

Lanier emphasizes the importance of creating social media friendships and advises other social media managers to focus on research, writing, and timing when creating posts. During Lanier’s leadership, the Met’s social media following across platforms grew by almost 1.3 million.

As Lanier announces her departure from the Met to take some time off and relocate to Paris, she reflects on the once-in-a-lifetime experience of working at the museum. She notes that working at the Met, especially during a pandemic, is a transformative experience that can change one’s life.
