Sylvain Amic Appointed Chairman of Musée d’Orsay in Paris
Sylvain Amic, former chair of the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Rouen, has been appointed as the new chair of the Musée d’Orsay in Paris by French President Emmanuel Macron. Amic, known for his support of regional cultural policies and promotion of the democratisation of culture, brings a fresh perspective to the Paris institution dedicated to 19th-century art. With a background in teaching and museum management, Amic has a proven track record of successful cultural initiatives, including an annual Impressionist festival in Normandy. His new role at the Musée d’Orsay will involve overseeing a rehang of the collection, implementing budget cuts, and developing a new research centre. Amic’s appointment comes at a time of increased visitor numbers and ongoing restoration projects at the museum.
